day 7 and beyond

this isnt written anywhere near day 7 since comcast blows donkeys

will drove from utah to cali since I was suffering from vertigo. I hadnt slept much saturday night b/c I kept thinking I was falling out of the bed. the drive was treacherous going over the mountains in Nevada/ Ca. so glad to be away from my car. I believe the cats are too.
I was useless for about a day due to overload/vertigo/ exhaustion. for those keeping track: number of times I sobbed about being homesick: one-ish
the cable and interweb were screwed up totally. not a shock, Ive never had cable installation go smoothly.
apartment is so sweet. it has a pool ( with 24hr access), fitness room also 24hr, central air, ceiling fan, garbage disposal, dishwasher, and a huge walk in closet. its not to closed to campus so we dont have to deal with craziness.

day 6

Miles_traveled: 660

Starting point: North Platte,NB

Ending point: Salt lake city, UT

Point of Furthest Western Progress: Lake point junction, UT

time on the road: Approx. 11hrs

Wyoming. what can I say. theres NOTHING in it. today was largely spent traversing this hilly state. I think either the fatigue or the altitude has started to take a toll on my boys. Slick was a pest when let out of the crate, and eric became increasingly more agitated. While stopping for gas in Laramie, we were going to have OAH phone in an order for ace to a local Pharmacy, but stumbled upon a vet just 3 doors down from the gas station. Dr. Porter was VERY helpful and hooked us up 5 tabs of 10 mg Acepromazine for the boys. I gave Eric and Slick each 10 mgs, and knocked them out but good. I was worried it was a little heavy for eric, but he's since woken up fine, albeit still rather drunk. They slept after about 45 mins and stayed quiet the whole rest of the way. Thermin was an angel and never needed anything.
We made it out to Lake point Jnxn, but were faced with a) 3 more hours into NV or b) backtrack 15 miles to SLC. We eventually decieded to return to SLC, go to bed early and tackle all of NV tomorrow.

Plan for tomorrow: NV+CA. It looks like the terrain gets a lot rougher over the UT/NV border, so waking up tomorrow will be the way to go. Estimated highs in Davis tomorrow are expected to get up into the high 100's, so moving in will be an Ordeal. Plan to meet up e's friend in Davis when we arrive.

Happy trails.

day_4
who-needs-spaces?
start_=Peoria_Ill
end_=Peoria_Ill
Miles_in_between_-'round_200

met/saw_Champaign_crew-Great (wow! thats a space! hey these are too!)
It was great to see almost everyone again. Luke was hilarious and it was nice to meet Dr. Walling, a kindred spirit who was scared off of clinical medicine after a New Jersey Small animal internship several years ago. Anyway, got back late after way too much physical abuse. Plan tomorrow: start the BIG move, have to make it across as many miles as possible. Updates as possible. and e got the job at the vet school. woot $!

day2 the lowercase version

we got on the road around 10:30pm and after 1pm I drove. I didn't stop until 10pm-ish. that is the most I've ever driven in one sitting and is the most my car has ever gone in a trip.
so... my experience of gas has been as such: drive to pump, crack window enough to demand " fill it up,regular, credit please" then fiddle with my radio, deny any marriage proposals the gas attendant should offer, ya know. Ive taken for granted the little time I got while waiting.

well....
Will made me pump gas today. blargh. I was all creeped out and felt everyone could smell my novice. i tried it by myself but I keep getting so frustrated with the credit card part. the cashiers were mildly inbred so I aborted the mission until Will could supervise. I got flustered by everything. the cap is on so tight and then I keep thinking Im going to blow up the car filled with kittens. nope I dont enjoy it. I threw a proper hissy fit.
I'll be the first to say I'm the reason they think Jersey people will blow themselves up when pumping gas!
driving this much made me realize how much I miss my dad.
oh, yesterday when I drove past Louis' exit on Rt 80W, I remembered how once upon a time that was the futherest I'd drive. heh!

day 2

Start: Hazelton, PA

End: Greensfield, IN

Miles travelled: 550

Time on the road: 11 hours 45 mins

Breakfast: Continental breakfast

Lunch: McDonalds

Dinner: Ruby Tuesday

Quote of the day: "I want my magical gas fairy!"

The end of the second day, which went WAY better than yesterday. Liz took over driving the car around 1 PM and just kept going like a real trooper. There were a few snafus getting gas into the car, but in the end, no problems. Ohio drivers end up being almost as nutty as new york drivers.

Plan for tomorrow: Finish trip to Peoria IL. Sort stuff at the parents place pack it up.

1993 Saturn SL2 Stick shift: $200

17' UHaul truck rental: $2422.17

Crossing the NJ/PA border and getting out of the guido state: Priceless

Ending point: Hazelton, PA

Net Miles driven: 120ish

Holy freaking crap I'm finally finished with this damned internship! Our 'little' trip started today. OMG, its been horrific. Some fun stats for the day:

Beds packed: 2 1/2 (1/2 = futon)

Boxes packed: too many to count

unicycles packed: 1

High temp: 95 F

Meals bought: 11

time spent packing: 9 hours, 30 minutes (approximately 35 man hours total)

Time spent trying to find a freaking car sales place on 17 N: 1 hour 45 min.

Hysterical Liz moments: 5

# of times Will was pooped on by cats: 1

Anyway, it was miserable, tedious and exhausting getting everything packed up, but with lots of help (THANKS JOANNE!!) we managed to muddle through it all. The 17' truck was absolutely the right size. We're all exhausted after the intense heat and effort needed to get everything loaded.

Plan for tomorrow: Sleep late! Plan to drive through to eastern Indiana, stop for the night and then continue.

Happy Trails!
